Vodafone India is in talks with Tikona Digital Networks to buy its 4G spectrum, with this deal Vodafone will get 2300 MHz spectrum in Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, UP (East), UP (West) and Rajasthan.
Vodafone, which doesn’t have 4G airwaves in that band, will deploy its high-speed broadband services over the 1800 MHz band across five circles of Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Karnataka and Kerala. So far, it has launched 4G services across 10 towns in Kerala only.
Vodafone has also reportedly held talks with Videocon Mobiles for buying its 4G bandwidth in the 1800 MHz band, but valuation differences had sprung up there as well. Idea Cellular recently bought 4G airwaves in the 1800 MHz band in UP (West) and Gujarat circles from Videocon for Rs 3,310 crore. Incumbent telcos such as Vodafone, market leader Bharti Airtel and No. 3 Idea Cellular have been trying to create enough capacity before Mukesh Ambani-owned Reliance Jio Infocomm commercially launches its 4G services, expected early next year.
