Twitter Tuesday said that it has launched Twitter Samvad, a digital governance service, which will deliver a set of curated Tweets from the government agencies and leaders’ accounts to mobile users as SMS.

The latest service is a a part of the Indian government’s Digital India initiative and has been based on the missed call platform created by ZipDial, the Indian company recently acquired by Twitter.

The micro-blogging site said that the SMSs will offer updates on government services, policies and activities to citizens who sign up for the service through 16 government accounts in the launch phase.

Any person with a mobile phone can register for the service by giving a missed call to a unique number for each of the partners. The service works without a data plan. Original post at ET Telecom
