Internet users in India sent more than 1.5 lakh e-mail petitions to the telecom regulator over the weekend, urging it to protect network neutrality in the country, the biggest response to any consultation paper it has floated.

On Saturday, a group of Internet users started a campaign asking the public to send submissions to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai), which sought views by April 24 on regulating services such as WhatsApp and Skype operating on broadband networks run by telecom companies.

“This is completely unprecedented. We thought we’ll get about 15,000 e-mails in 10 days,” said Bengaluru-based Kiran Jonnalagadda, the founder of HasGeek, a platform for coders, and one of the people behind the campaign. Original post at ET Telecom
