Telefonica is committed to maintaining a relationship with its customers across all devices, from smartphones to tablets and wearables, a company executive insisted on Tuesday.

Telecoms operators need to be a part of the relationship their customers have with content, Stephen Shurrock, director of innovation and digital disruption at Telefonica, told delegates at the 2014 Total Telecom Festival in London. And content consumption now takes place across multiple devices and screens.

Telefonica wants to be a part of “belly telly,” Shurrock said. “Making sure we achieve that second [screen] is important.”

But the Spain-based operator’s ambitions extend beyond the second screen.
