Telecom minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has decided to release a road map for auction of spectrum in the 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz and the 1800 MHz bands within the government’s first 100 days, a measure aimed at improving confidence of investors in the sector.
The road map will include the Union Cabinet’s approval for trading spectrum and detailed guidelines on sharing spectrum, Prasad said on Tuesday, 20 days after he took charge as telecom minister in the new Narendra Modi led government at the Centre.
“I have already gone through two presentations and we will soon come back on spectrum sharing, trading and the allocation of the airwaves,” Prasad said, adding that he was trying to understand the spectrum issues and would soon come up with a detailed plan on managing issues pertaining to the airwaves.
