Telcos Urge Trai To Raise Proposed Roaming Cap

Comments Off on Telcos Urge Trai To Raise Proposed Roaming Cap 7

Leading telecom companies have urged the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India to consider raising the ceiling price on outgoing local calls during roaming from the proposed 65 paise a minute amid a move by the regulator to cut charges for calls and messages used by millions of subscribers outside their home zones.

According to three sources, top carriers including Bharti Airtel, Vodafone India, Idea Cellular and Aircel met Trai Chairman Rahul Khullar on Wednesday and suggested that the ceiling price should be raised.

“The regulator has said that roaming prices have always been dictated by Trai and they will come down. That has been the plan for a year now,” one of the people aware of the discussions told ET. Original post at ET Telecom
