SC to Go Ahead with 2G Case Trial

Comments Off on SC to Go Ahead with 2G Case Trial 5

The Supreme Court on Thursday will continue with its trial of the 2G spectrum allotment case, refusing to stay proceedings until it takes a call on petitions filed by some of the accused seeking the quashing of charges. The pleas had been filed in the Delhi High Court but the top court had stayed those proceedings.

The accused say they have a right to approach the high court to have the charges invalidated, but the Central Bureau of Investigation disputed this, citing a top court order that asked all other courts to lay off the case to permit a quicker trial. The accused claim this is a violation of their constitutional right to move the high court. The Supreme Court is yet to examine their plea, though it stayed the petitions in the high court as far back as November 2012. Original post at ET Telecom
