Samsung lost its leadership position in the Indian tablet market to the home-bred tablet and smartphome vendor iBall in the fourth quarter of the 2014, IDC said.

Samsung slipped to the second spot, with 12.9% of the market share as against a 17.9% share in fourth quarter of 2013. Local tablet vendors are posing stiff competition to Samsung at retail counters, IDC said, which added that iBall has more than tripled its share in the fourth quarter of 2014 at 15.6%, up from a 4.5% share in the same quarter last year.

iBall’s growth was backed by low cost products targeted at consumers looking to own entry level form factors. The brand is actively engaged in expanding its retail presence as well as geographical reach, the research agency said. Original post at ET Telecom
