HDFC bank has launched a new kind of service to recharge prepaid mobile phones, Nitin Chugh, Head Digital Banking, HDFC bank, said that once customer activates the service text message, they can recharge their prepaid mobile by just giving a missed call. The customer can also add number of their friends and family through SMS and authorize them by giving a missed call, money will be debited from customer’sown account.
“HDFC bank customers who are registered for SMS banking can activate this service by sending SMS and will be activated for missed call recharge for a default amount of INR 50. If a customer wishes to set any favorite amount other than INR 50 for the ‘missed call recharge’, it can be done by sending SMS,” he said.
Missed call recharge service is restricted to HDFC bank customers, even then the bank is looking towards its 24.1 million debit card base. The service is ideal for featured phone users which is around 75% of handsets in India. “Today a lot of operations like chequebook delivery, app download, voting, bank balance check and even DTH recharge happens via missed calls,” said Anand Sahai, Vodafone Head.
