Deployment of more 4G networks on the 2300MHz band will require Indus Towers to transform, which will need to acquire sites on city infrastructure such as light poles, chief executive of the world’s largest telecom tower company said.

Sites from which telecom operators can emit a signal for cellphones are getting harder to find, especially in urban areas, driving up rentals, BS Shantharaju told ET . He added that the solution is to sign on “street furniture” and deploy diesel-free, automated and elegant new sites.

To gear up for the transformation, the tower company is in talks with municipal authorities to host small cell towers on city infrastructure such as street lights, bus stops and billboards, he said. Original post at ET Telecom
