European Parliament Backs Breaking up Google

The European Parliament on Thursday voted in favour of breaking up Google, a move that increases the pressure on Brussels to take a tough stance with the search giant.

Google’s long-running dispute with the European Commission stems from complaints that its search engine is biased towards its own specialised services – like those used for tracking down online shopping results, hotels, or restaurants – and deliberately ranks them above its rivals, constituting an abuse of its dominant position in the search market.

Google has offered a number of concessions, including but not limited to agreeing to equally promote at least three competitors, and removing certain exclusivity rights from search advertising agreements. Original post at Total Telecom
