COAI Likely To Move Court To Stay Spectrum Auctions

Top telecom operators in the country are discussing “perceived anomalies” in the bidding rules for the upcoming sale of airwaves and may consider seeking a stay on the auction.

Government auction of airwaves, or spectrum, is scheduled to begin on March 4. If a court grants a stay, it could hurt the Narendra Modi-led government’s plan of raising over Rs 25,000 crore this fiscal year to help bridge the budget deficit.

“COAI (Cellular Operators Association of India) and its members are reviewing the NIA (notice inviting application) document and discussing certain perceived anomalies in it and discussing this with our legal counsel to determine the best way forward,” Rajan Mathews, director general of COAI, told ET in an e-mail.
