India witnessed 21.4 percent growth in smartphone shipments in Q3 2015 to reach 28.3 million units, up from 23.3 million units for the same period last year. According to IDC 33 percent of smartphones shipped in the quarter are 4G enabled, the growth was driven by low cost feature rich 4G smartphones. Samsung took lead position with a market share of 24 percent followed by home grown smartphone manufacturer, Micromax with marketshare of 16.7 percent.

“The growth in the smartphone market was helped by rising demand for affordable 4G smartphones.” said Karthik J , Senior Market Analyst, Client Devices, IDC. “e-tailers such as Flipkart, Snapdeal, and Amazon continue to drive shipments of the Chinese vendors, who have been aggressively trying to capture the 4G smartphone market in India,” added Karthik.
