Videocon Telecom is upgrading its 2G network to 2.75 G EDGE (enhanced data for GSM evolution) in Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh and Gujarat with an investment of Rs 130 crore to drive data uptake before it jumps to the 4G technology next year, a top official said.
“In India, 80% of mobile internet users still use 2G data enabled handsets, this is where we devised our strategy to upgrade our network to 2.75G EDGE technology, which is capable of delivering almost 8 times the speed of conventional 2G Network,” Videocon Telecom chief executive Arvind Bali, told ET.
The company is also rolling out a marketing campaign to support the network upgrade. Over next few months, Videocon Telecom plans to spend Rs 50 crore on its marketing campaign, which includes above the line (ATL) and below the line (BTL) marketing.
“We are branding our network as “Pauney 3G” network (quarter to 3G Network). Looking at the initial results, I am sure this will be money well spent,” Bali said. Original post by Danish Khan at ET Telecom
